“As an assistant track coach at Blue Lightning Track Club for the past four years, I couldn’t be prouder to be part of this incredible team. This program stands out not just for its commitment to developing young athletes, but also for the close-knit family atmosphere it fosters. Under the inspirational leadership of our head coach, Steve Strother, our athletes don’t just learn to run—they learn to believe in themselves.
My son, Jah-Kyur, has been a part of this journey, and watching him grow into a Champion alongside the other passionate athletes has been a joy. I’ve witnessed him become an All-American, three-time National Junior Olympian in the 800 meters, 1500 meters, and National Champion in the 4×400 meter relay is something I will always cherish. Each child finds their potential here, thanks to the support and love from coaches, parents, and teammates.
Coach Steve and the entire coaching staff have provided him, and all our young athletes, the guidance and support needed to reach their full potential. As a coach and parent it has been incredible witnessing these kids develop through their hard work and discipline into Champions on and off the track, is something I cherish deeply.
What sets Blue Lightning apart is the camaraderie and team community we have built together. From the dedicated coaches who inspire our athletes every day, to committed Parents, and the friendly competition among teammates, it’s truly a special place. I also have to give a shout-out to our amazing team awards potluck barbecues—where I proudly take on the role of the grill master, serving up burgers, hot dogs, and my secret jerk chicken recipe! There’s nothing better than seeing the kids enjoy themselves, bonding over great food and laughter after a long track season.
I look forward to many more seasons of coaching alongside my amazing partners as we continue to cultivate the talent and character of our young athletes.
